Busy Professionals, Take Note: How Mindful Coffee Brewing Brought Serenity to My Hectic Morning
This article is part of my 30-day writing challenge - Ship-30-for-30
I'll admit it, I was overwhelmed this morning – until the simple act of making coffee grounded me in a way I never anticipated.
A Rough Morning Start
This morning started out very hectic. I woke up much later than usual and faced two tasks on my morning agenda that I normally enjoy:
Morning Pages - Part of The Artist's Way course that helps clear my mind.
Ship 30 Writing - A cohort I joined to practice daily writing, aiming to start my newsletter.
Instead of tackling one of these tasks, I chose to read my emails, leading me to think, "Why did I do that?" Now, I found myself with a scattered mind before my day had really begun.
The Mindful Coffee Brewing Process
Seeking respite, I turned to a simple, yet profound practice: mindfulness. It began with making a cup of coffee, but not in a hurried manner. I chose to use a hand grinder, focusing intently on each spin, each crunch of the beans. This deliberate act helped shift my attention away from the noisy and stressful thoughts, allowing me to embark on a journey into mindfulness and solace.
As the water boiled, I continued grinding, focusing on the water bubbles and the turn of the grind.
Using an AeroPress, I slowly poured the water over the coffee, stirring mindfully, staying present with each pour and stir. This wasn't just coffee making; it was my mindful ritual. By the time I sat down with my cup, my mind had cleared. The chaos had subsided, replaced by a focused calm.
The Aftermath of the Mindful Ritual
This experience reminded me that mindfulness doesn't require special equipment or a lot of time. It's about fully engaging with the present moment, even in a routine task like making coffee. The ritual's impact extended beyond the morning, infusing a sense of calm into the rest of my day.
The Power of Mindfulness in Everyday Tasks
This simple practice cleared my mind and enhanced my focus, proving that a mindful moment can be a powerful tool for mental clarity in our busy lives. I encourage everyone to find their own version of this ritual, turning a daily task into a moment of mindfulness.
